The Primary School No. 1 is undergoing a major renovation. PLN 11.5 million was allocated for comprehensive modernization and thermal modernization of the building .
- Primary School No. 1 was built in 1980. So far, the building has not been modernized. After more than 40 years, the building required a major renovation. We want to fulfil students' dreams of a new gym and restrooms. I am convinced that after the investment is completed, the school will look fantastic. I hope that the final effect will be satisfactory to young residents of Ostrów Wielkopolski and to their teachers - says Beata Klimek, Mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
The construction works in Primary School No. 1 include adaptation of the building to current sanitary and fire safety requirements, construction of an elevator and adaptation of the building to the needs of people with disabilities. The works also include thermal modernization, replacement of parts of the installation, renovation works, partial replacement of windows and doors.
- The purpose of the task is to adapt the building to sanitary and fire safety requirements. This investment will definitely increase the safety of children and school employees. Another goal is to make a thermos modernization works. The cost of the investment is PLN 11.5 million, and the thermal modernization will cost nearly PLN 4.3 million. The building will produce green energy thanks to solar panels that will be installed on the roof. In fact, the building will be eco-friendly and will generate lower maintenance costs - explains Mikołaj Kostka, deputy mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
- The renovation of the school is being made both for children and teachers. We want the school to be more friendly to all of them. This building really needed a change. I hope that, after the works are completed, students will really appreciate the conditions they will study in - emphasizes Dorota Grześkowiak, director of the school .
The Primary School number 1 is one of the largest schools in Ostrów Wielkopolski. 532 students study there. What do they think about this investment?
The organization of renovation works in the school is really good. We’ve got lessons in different classrooms, but it doesn’t disturb the learning atmosphere - says Monika Florczyk, a student of "Jedynka".
The renovations works don’t disturb us so much. We’ve got shorter breaks between lessons. We’ve got lessons in the same classroom, only the gym is under renovation. How does my “dream school” look like? I would like the restrooms to be more colourful and fun - says Hania Biernacka, a student of Primary School.
- During the renovation, the IT lesson was moved to another floor, sometimes you can hear construction noises, especially on the top floor, but these are the only difficulties. We would like the school to have an elevator, but this dream that will come true in a few months, as well as a nice gym. In the future, it would be nice if there was a shooting range in the school - say Michalina Konrady and Nadia Golczyk .
The cost of this comprehensive modernization and thermal modernization of the building is PLN 11.5 million. The renovation of the school is one of the tasks of the Great City Development Program until 2023. The investment is implemented thanks to co-financing from the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the state budget under the Local Development Program as one of the investments of the "E-Ostrów 2050 - Ecological, Energy, Economic City" project.
