I’m just disabled

“I just don’t walk,  ... but to you, it shouldn't matter." This is one of the slogans that appeared in the cityposters and billboards. What do they refer to? This is one of the element of the a campaign of the City of Ostrów Wielkopolski, which draws attention  to full-fledged, disabled residents who live  and work among us.
I just don't walk. I just don’t see. I just don’t hear. ONLY because many people with disabilities are professionally fulfilled and pursue their passions. It is important not to exclude people with disabilities from social life. Equally important in the message is to change the thinking of disabled people about themselves. Above all, however, disability should not define anyone as human.
-    The residents of Ostrów prove many times that disability does not have to and is not an obstacle in realizing dreams and goals. People with disabilities achieve sporting successes, engage in the social life of our city and work among us. They are our family members, friends, neighbours, co-workers. Still, this “otherness” evokes intimidation or embarrassment.  "I'm only disabled" campaign is supposed to break the existing stereotypes - says Beata Klimek, Mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
There around 7,000 people with disabilities in Ostrów Wielkopolski. Every tenth of us is such a person. They suffer mainly form dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system, vision defects or intellectual disabilities.
-    Billboards and posters are the first stage of the campaign. I really hope that  - in the effect of these activities  - the inhabitants of Ostrów will become more open to the people with disabilities, and  that people with disabilities will change their attitude towards outside world. That this campaign will help them to get involved in the social and professional life more - emphasizes Sebastian Górski, deputy mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
