The construction of a parking monitoring system is starting in Ostrów Wielkopolski. This solution will help drivers to find a free parking space faster. The investment will cost almost PLN 1.7 million and is fully financed from the European Economic Area and from the state budget.  The solution is carried out in the frame of the project called "E-Ostrów 2050 - Ecological, Energy, Economic City".
Special sensors will be installed in the parking spaces, which will inform whether the place is free or occupied. The data will be collected by the telecommunications network and transferred to information boards. In total, 1000 sensors will be installed in Ostrów Wielkopolski in six car park and 5 information boards.
- This is another step towards smart city. Ostrów Wielkopolski wants to be  “smart” and more and more friendly to its inhabitants. By implementing such a system, we not only improve the quality of life of the residents, but also create infrastructure that allows for better management of the city - emphasized Beata Klimek, Mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
The investment will cost almost PLN 1.7 million. It is worth emphasizing that the city does not add even a zloty to this investment. The task is fully financed from the European Economic Area and the state budget. The city obtained founds as part of the project entitled. "E-Ostrów 2050 - Ecological, Energy, Economic City".
- The parking monitoring system is another element of Smart City. Ostrów Wielkopolski has been successively introducing new intelligent solutions for several years. These include very intensive activities related to the modernization of lighting infrastructure - roads and parks. The next task is remote meter readings the Wodkan company. The Heating Municipal Company also conducts specific activities with network metering, which allow us to diagnose heat losses or failures very quickly and efficiently - says Mikołaj Kostka, deputy mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
A contract for the construction of a parking space monitoring system was signed by: Beata Klimek Mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski and Maciej Staszak, Vice-President of the Management Board of Emitel S.A. - investment contractor.
 - The most important advantage of this investment is the reduction of travel time to a free parking space. This intelligent system also has a very positive impact on the environment. If we drive less, we generate much less harmful exhaust gases - emphasizes Maciej Staszak, Vice-President of the Management Board of Emitel S.A.
For the needs of the investment, a telecommunications network will be built, which in the future may be used for other intelligent solutions.
- The system will enable the connection of various types of reading infrastructure, for example: water level or lawn dryness. Such sensors can be connected to this telecommunications network and can be processed and read in this network. We want to release this data. They will not be collected by us, but will be open. Everyone will have access to them - explains Marcin Wieruchowski, director of the Municipal Road Company of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
The parking space monitoring system will be developed within the next 10 months.
