Project "E-Ostrów 2050" officially opened
The project "E-Ostrów 2050 - Ecological, Energy and Economic City" was opened with a conference attended by members of parliament, local government officials and experts. For the implementation of the investment, as part of the project, we obtained over PLN 15 million in funding from EEA funds and the state budget.
- We can be proud that thanks to our efforts, Ostrów Wielkopolski is among 29 Polish cities that have obtained important financial support under the Local Development Program. The comprehensive and first such project, "E-Ostrów 2050 - Ecological, Energy and Economic City", benefits from co-financing in the amount of EUR 3.5 million. This is the equivalent of over PLN 15 million, which was obtained from EEA funds financed by: Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway. The financial contribution is also provided by the state budget. We are deeply convinced that thanks to this project, our city will be a place of sustainable development in the social, environmental, economic and institutional dimensions. We care about the comprehensive development of the city for the present and future inhabitants of Ostrów Wielkopolski - emphasizes Beata Klimek, mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski.
The conference opening the project was held on Monday, May 16 at the Local Activity Center. The panelists of the event were: Mikołaj Kostka, deputy mayor of Ostrów Wielkopolski, Ryszard Grobelny, strategic advisor to the Association of Polish Cities, Maciej Witczak, president of the company Street and Road Lighting Company /Oświetlnie Uliczne i Drogowe Sp. z o.o./ in Kalisz and Janusz Marczak, president of Municipal Comunication Company /Miejski Zakład Komunikacji S.A./ in Ostrów Wielkopolski.
During the conference, we talked about Ostrów Wielkopolski, solutions for a better quality and comfort of life of residents, low-emission public transport, Local Development Program and EEA Funds, as an impulse for the development of Polish cities.
- The Ostrow’s project is one of the most interesting out of 29 projects implemented in Poland. It was - firstly - highly rated, and secondly, it has a good basis: it is already at a very advanced stage of implementation. From the national point of view, it is also important, because we hope that this project will show that small and medium-sized cities can achieve success. We would like Ostrów Wielkopolski to become an example of a city of success in the implementation of this project. As an inhabitant of Greater Poland, I believe that it will be so, and Greater Poland will become a good example - says Ryszard Grobelny, strategic advisor to the Association of Polish Cities.
Among the guests of the event were: the Senator of the Republic of Poland, Ewa Matecka, and member of Polish Parliament: Mariusz Witczak, Wiesław Szczepański and Andrzej Grzyb. Minister Jan Dziedziczak was represented by the director of his office, Wincenty Nowak. Kamil Wieder, the Head of the JST Support Department from the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, and numerous experts cooperating with Ostrów Wielkopolski in the preparation of the project also participated in the conference. Local government officials also participated in the conference, incl. Mayor of Bytom Mariusz Wołosz, vice-president of Legnica Jadwiga Jadwiga Zienkiewicz, as well as the deputy mayor of Konin Paweł Adamów. Smaller local governments were represented, among others, by the mayor of the town and commune of Ostrzeszów, Patryk Jędrowiak, mayor of the town and commune of Mikstat, Henryk Zieliński, mayor of the commune of Gołuchów, Marek Zdunek, mayor of the commune of Przygodzice, Krzysztof Rasiak, and mayor of the commune of Ostrów Wielkopolski, Piotr Kuroszczyk.
- The modern city is a human-friendly city. Infrastructure which increases the quality of life and all activities improving the quality of life mean that the inhabitants treat the city as a common achievement, thanks to which they see more clearly the meaning of working on its development. I am deeply convinced that Ostrów Wielkopolski is striving for just such a model. Many activities have already brought us closer to it. I believe that E-Ostrów 2050 is not only an Ecological, Energy and Economic City, but above all, an empathetic space where each solution takes into account human sensitivity – said Senator Ewa Matecka.

In turn, the sum of the potentials of our small homelands means greater development of our region, country and Europe - adds Mayor Beata Klimek.
